Austin Parade of Homes - 2012

The Annual Austin Parade of Homes returned to Austin after a year long hiatus.

Six luxury homes were on display at The Overlook Estates in Southwest Austin starting from October. 27th and running through November 11th of 2012.

This year was the 58th Parade of Homes put on by the Home Builders Association of Greater Austin and is one of the oldest events of its kind in the country.

It was a welcome return event — considering that the Parade was cancelled last year. Construction financing had been too hard to come by and the home building industry was suffering many economic pull-backs.

This year six custom home builders were able to finance and complete a range of luxury homes, which were constructed in the very appealing Overlook Estates in Southwest Austin.

The Parade is a huge event with 10,000 to 15,000 visitors attending each year and it is a very significant capital investment for the Austin Home Builder Association.

This year’s location was chosen through a vetting process that involved the Home Builders Association’s board of directors and the overall membership. The Overlook Estates was selected because of its stunning views of the Hill Country, which appeals to builders and home buyers alike.

Timing was really good for this year’s parade because the market is turning up and the homes are in a more affordable price range than in years past. Most of the homes are under $1 million.

There are five builders that have homes featured: JKD Builders, Enertech Builders, Dillon Custom Homes, Pillar Custom Homes, PGM Design Build and Hennessee Group.

Two homes in this year’s Parade have already been sold, while all six should be under contract within 30 days after the Parade ends.

The builders benefit from the exposure, but so do the many vendors whose products are showcased. This is an event that allows the industry to display the best products, and it gives credibility to the builders.

However, more could have been done to promote this event through the social marketing arena as this has proven to be a true method of gaining participation in events of this type.

There was a lot of excitement around this event and that excitement should have been translated more to the public with new media to add to the buzz.

Vendors take note … See you next year at the Austin Parade of Homes - 2013
